IPL bigwigs Mumbai Indians began their preparations for the 2012 season on their home ground, Wankhede Stadium, last evening.
Mumbai Indians, who had a memorable season last year, finishing at the No. 3 spot in IPL 2011 and winning CLT20 2011, began their training sessions under coach Robin Singh, assistant coach Paras Mhambrey and bowling coach Maninder Singh.
Amongst those practicing were RP Singh, Ambati Rayudu, Dhawal Kulkarni, Tirumalasetti Suman, and Sushant Marathe. The players sweat it out in the Mumbai heat for about three hours, primarily batting and bowling.
While MI skipper Sachin Tendulkar and batsman Rohit Sharma were away on national duty, youngster Surya Kumar Yadav was also absent from the net session, representing the West Zone in the Deodhar Trophy domestic tournament.
Apart from the iconic Tendulkar, the high profile team also boasts crowd-pullers like Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga, Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and South African sensation Richard Levi.
